DIRECTOR’S CORNER
I’M SO GLAD WE HAD THIS TIME TOGETHER
Cindy Dady, OCMS Executive Director I know I’m showing my age, but as a young girl my
family watched The Carol Burnett Show. I always knew it was the end of the show when she would sing to the audience, “I’m so glad we had this time together”. It was kind of sad for me because I hated when the show ended, and I knew it was time to go to bed. Well, now it is my time to say (I’ll spare you my singing), I’m so very glad we had this time together. This editorial is my last one as Executive Director of OCMS as I will be leaving the society as I will be leaving the society in the next several weeks.. I am not sure what my next steps will be, but I will always be grateful for the fourteen years I have spent with
the society.
I started at OCMS in April 2007 as the Assistant Director. At that time, we were at the little white house in Birmingham. The whole town had grown around the house and my office faced one of the
brick walls from a new building. Those days seem forever ago.
I have worked with some amazing people during
my stay at OCMS. I think my fourteen years have been because of them. When you have the support that I have received from our Board of Directors, committee members, MSMS staff, and other county society executives, it makes working here so much easier
and leaving so much harder.
I will remember all the fun annual meetings with people like David Pogue, Harry Markopoulos, the dueling piano group, and the White Coat Investor, Dr. James Dahle. I will remember the MSMS HODs when we
had the opportunity to see everyone in person and discuss important issues in healthcare. I will remember the special events, like the resident summer barbeque or family bowling, the Detroit Tigers outing, the Detroit Zoo family day, the fowling with our medical students, and the trivia contest with the residents where me, my husband, and one of our Board members were the winners.
I have learned so much from my experiences at OCMS with the many speakers we have invited to educate our members such as Joe Mull, Elizabeth Woodcock, Dr. Christine Sinsky, Dr. Roger Smith, and the important topics such as physician wellness, new technology in healthcare, managing dementia, and recognizing human trafficking victims.
With many memories to take with me, I will continue to believe that what we strive to achieve at OCMS, improving the lives of physicians, is as important now as it was in 1831 when OCMS was founded. We need to continue standing by the side of our physicians to ensure healthcare teams are physician led. We must continue to advocate for public health initiatives and the importance they have to our communities. Lastly, we must continue to ensure that physicians have a voice, as a leader, in shaping the healthcare systems of today and tomorrow.
Take care, OCMS members, the sacrifices you make to be the healers of humankind, the compassion, heart, mind, and spirit it takes to do your job and do it well, I hope will never go unnoticed.
Cindy
