The Value of Organized Medicine by Dr. Joann M. Smith, OB/GYN
I believe in organized medicine, in physicians serving each other’s interests so that we can be our best advocates and support to best serve our patients.
The world is run by the people who show up, and I have a deep desire to make this world a better place.
If we can run our practices better, supporting each other through camaraderie, mentorship, social activities, intellectual debate, and mutual respect for the gifts we give to others, then we physicians have more freedom to be a force for good in the world.
Most importantly, members uniquely understand the challenges physicians face every day. Oakland County Medical Society (OCMS) cares for us so that we can care for others better. Our support and funding help make this vision come to life.
I belong to the Oakland County Medical Society because I am a physician who cares.
Sincerely, Dr. Smith

MSMS and County Medical Society 2022 Dues Season Begins
Key Takeaway: The MSMS and County Medical Society dues invoices have been sent to members. This year members have an option to begin automatic renewals.
Members are starting to receive the 2022 invoices for MSMS and County Medical Society dues. The 2022 dues invoice was updated to include an automatic membership renewal. Physician members can setup an automatic annual or monthly renewal process either via credit card or checking account debit.
To create an auto-pay account, members will visit the MSMS My Account webpage and complete the payment demographic information. This information will be encrypted in the system but used on an annual or monthly basis for automatic renewals. An MSMS Account Specialist can also assist members with setting up the Auto Pay Account over the phone if they are more comfortable doing it that way.
Once members opt into the automatic renewal, the automatic payment will begin with the 2023 dues season. As with other payment options, MSMS will collect the state medical and county medical society dues. The transfer of funds process to the county medical societies will not change.
Another option that is now available is monthly payments.
Even though MSMS is encouraging automatic renewals, there are other ways to renew membership: • Pay online at MSMS.org/Renew.
• Call your MSMS Account Specialist at 517-337-1351 to pay by phone.
• Fax your invoice payment to 517-336-5797.
Board members may set up automatic membership renewals using the above links. If your membership is paid by a group, we are working directly with the group to remit payment.
