GA rate at that time. Further, he noted that the overall Cirrus accident rate was about half of the GA number. His summary this time puts the numbers in the context of expectations:
“Yet the accident rates weren’t so much horrible as disappointing.”

Details SR20 and SR22 Accident Data
As with any study of aviation accident data, Paul presents several comparison charts.
One of several charts that show Cirrus accident trends, here focused on the SR22. The blue line shows growth in the SR22 fleet while the red line shows the number of fatal ac- cidents and the green line shows the number of all accidents in the NTSB database.
One set compares Cirrus to similar makes and models in 2012 and now in 2018. He presents the percent of accidents that are fatal. The Cirrus percentage, while still higher, declined significantly while others remained relatively stable.
His charts of accident trends separated the SR20 from the SR22 and displayed the growth in the fleet size with the number of all accidents and fatal accidents each year since introduction of the SR20 in 1999.
Trends for both SR20 and SR22 show declines in number of fatal accidents as growth of the Cirrus fleet continues.
The trends for all accidents, however, reveal a rising trend since 2013. Still Paul estimates:
“If the Cirrus worldwide fleet hours-flown claim of a million hours per year is accurate, the worldwide overall accident rate for 2018 was 2.7/100,000 hours or less than half the 4.92 GA average.”
Rising Uptrends
Paul did dig into the rising number of all accidents in the past few years. He talked with both Cirrus Aircraft and COPA and made this conclusion:
“If there’s a unified theory here, it has to do with buyers on the used market who, despite Embark, might not be seeking competent training.”
Landings Remain a Source of Accidents
As expected with any review of Cirrus accidents, he noted our propensity to have problems with landings. The article
