Peyton Johnston

Peyton Johnston is a current fourth year medical student at Wayne State University School of Medicine, who aspires to practice Obstetrics and Gynecology
with a focus in maternal-fetal medicine. She attended Western Michigan University and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences and minor in Chemistry and Spanish in 2015. As an undergraduate student, Peyton conducted research investigating a cell-cycle mutation in zebrafish, presenting her work
at various symposiums and conferences, including
the American Society for Engineering Education conference at University of Cincinnati. After graduating from Western Michigan University, Peyton obtained certification in phlebotomy from the Detroit Medical Center where she learned about health care disparities in underserved patients, contributing to her interest and pursuits in medicine.
As a medical student, Peyton has acted as the Co-Vice President of Internal Affairs for the Black Medical Association at Wayne State University School of Medicine. She has volunteered for various community
services, notably, as a student physician for the Robert R. Frank Student Run Free clinic. She is also a member of the Student National Medical Association, Black Medical Association at Wayne State, American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Phi-Beta Kappa National Honor Society, and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Recently, Peyton worked on a published study that investigated psychological outcomes in healthcare workers in the Detroit area exposed to COVID-19
and is currently working on a research project that analyzes neonatal outcomes between intrauterine/non- intrauterine growth restricted pregnancies in Arabic patients at Henry Ford Hospital.
This fall, Peyton will be receiving training in High- Risk Obstetrics as a visiting medical student at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in San Francisco, CA. In her free time, Peyton enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys cooking, painting and has developed an interest in interior design and mid-century architecture.
