These are exciting times for the Wayne County Medical Society of Southeast Michigan. Your society has been working hard preparing for the future. During our 171st Annual Business meeting on 5/19 we listened
to the exaugural speech from our outgoing President Dr.Steven Daveluy and we applauded and welcomed the inaugural speech by our incoming President Dr. Alireza Meysami. We are looking forward to Dr. Meysami’s leadership going forward. Dr Meysami is very well prepared and more than capable to move us forward as we face the next steps post COVID. We also, owe a debt of gratitude to our outgoing President Dr. Daveluy who served this society “virtually” with great distinction during the 2020 year which can be said to be our most challenging in our 100 plus year-old society.
Despite the unprecedented pandemic, we had the privilege of announcing the Joseph J. Weiss, MD Memorial Essay Contest Winners. It was truly a
challenge to select the winner. We were honored to select as our winner--the essay submission entitled
“ The Changing of Seasons and the Game of Life in Wayne County,” by Gaurav Sharma, MD. The essay that won for our honorable mention category was entitled “Thirteen Months into the Global Pandemic”, by Brooke Buckley, MD.
We are finally approaching some sense of normalcy while experiencing decreases in the ravages of COVID 19 on our patients and in our practices. The time is now ripe for us to engage and to be re-energized. The Detroit Medical News has been and continues to be
the voice of our progressive physician community. We look forward to what comes next as we “open” back up as a state and as a nation. You are a very important part of our continued success as we go forward. We look forward to your continued active membership, support and engagement.
