   In the U.S. about 5000 rabid animal cases are identified per year, ~90% of those found in wild animals (raccoons, skunks, bats, foxes). In 2018, 63 dogs, 241 cats, 33 cows and 13 donkeys/horses tested positive for rabies. The majority of these animals were not vaccinated. Since 1960, 127 human rabies cases have been reported in the U.S.—a quarter of cases acquired from international dog bites and ~70% of domestic cases from bats
