Michigan State Medical Society and Wayne County Medical Society of Southeast Michigan Praise Wayne County Health Department’s Decision Mandating Masks in Schools
EAST LANSING – The following is a joint public statement from Pino D. Colone, MD, president of the Michigan State Medical Society, and Alireza Meysami, MD, president of the Wayne County Medical Society of Southeast Michigan in response to the Wayne County Health Department decision to mandate masks be worn in schools.
“The Michigan State Medical Society and the Wayne County Medical Society of Southeast Michigan commend the Wayne County health department’s decision to require all students, regardless of vaccination status, to wear masks indoors as the new school year gets under way. With the Delta variant surging and children under the age of 12 still not yet eligible to receive the vaccine, there’s absolutely no question that this is the right decision and the best way to ensure schools stay open, and more importantly, students stay as safe and healthy as possible.”
