Register Now: Conference
features scenic destinations,
renowned labor attorney
— By Robert Figurski, Director
Providing a beautiful and relaxing location to bring members together to become better informed about labor issues is the goal of the annual POLC/GELC Confer- ence and this year is no exception.
Conference attendees will again stay at Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City, which provides gorgeous conference facilities along with access to an indoor water park.
Members will be welcomed with an evening Cocktail Reception featuring entertain- ment and a bonfire Sept. 19. The Annual Meeting & Labor Seminar, Sept. 20-21, includes complimentary breakfast both days of the Conference and a complimentary lunch Sept. 20 during the labor seminar.
On Sept. 20th, the Annual POLC/GELC Golf Outing, featuring a four-person scramble, will be held again at The Crown Golf Club for the affordable cost of $35 per person for 18 holes with a cart. For those who don’t golf, the Libation Tour will offer an alternative with new stops and free transportation to the picturesque outdoor/indoor Hop Lot Brewery, Chateau De Leelanau winery and Mammoth Distillery.
Renowned career labor attorney Richard G. Poulson will be the featured speaker at the Conference this year. Poulson’s drive to support unions stems from his upbring- ing — his father was a Philadelphia firefighter and his mother was a teacher. He lectures and trains labor organizations and attorneys using state-of-the-art methods to improve safety and health protections for public safety employees nationwide. He will discuss issues including speech and social media, body cameras, discrimination and harassment.
The Conference also features Leon LaBrecque, Managing Partner & CEO of LJPR Financial Advisors, who annually presents economic news updates. Members who have gone above and beyond the call of duty will be recognized with Law Enforcement Education Program (LEEP) Outstanding Service Awards and the LEEP Dream Scholars for the 2018-19 academic year will be announced.
Come relax and enjoy a scenic Lake Michigan shoreline getaway while sharing the company of fellow union members and educating yourself about current trends impact- ing labor organizations at the 21st Annual POLC/GELC Conference. d
