Figure 1: The two-page custom training syllabus that Gil and Brian use.
Brian: The way the training syllabus works is at the time we schedule our next training flight Gil will email me the updated syllabus from our previous flight for the six-month period we are working on. I look at what we have previously accomplished, how long its been since we have done a task, what the weather is going to be, and any special needs Gil may have. I develop a scenario for our upcoming flight to cover as much as possible in the two hours we usually fly. Gil and I go through a preflight discussion of the planned scenario and then we proceed to fly it. What I like about this approach is that I can use this framework to cover all the bases over six months but can also customize each training flight to meet specific needs and weather conditions. An example – Gil traveled for two weeks recently so it was almost three weeks since he had last flown, as a result I focused on sections one and two to get the maximum rust removal accomplished while checking off tasks on the syllabus.
