 171ST ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING
  EXAUGURAL ADDRESS OF THE PRESIDENT
It has been a year like no other. When we were planning the first ever virtual Annual Business meeting of the Wayne County Medical Society of Southeast Michigan one year ago, we eagerly anticipated the delayed gratification that would come in May of 2021, when we could mingle, catch up with friends and colleagues face to face, and share a toast in warm company. Alas, it is not yet our time. But that’s the beauty of delayed gratification, the longer the wait, the sweeter the reward. Tonight, we have the pleasure of picturing how wonderful the meeting will be next year when we can make eye contact with human beings instead of our computer screens. our younger physicians, balancing obligations with their families and children. I thank everyone who participated in our virtual board and committee meetings for welcoming me into your homes. Or, if you’re like me, the small area
of your home that that appears on camera and looks tidy
in the middle of the surrounding mess just off camera. While virtual meetings can’t serve all the same functions
as in-person gatherings, I was delighted that we were able to capture the same feeling of camaraderie and fellowship. It was a joy to watch members help each other navigate
the functionality of microphones, audio/video settings,
and other functions on the virtual platform. While the meetings served the purpose of executing our business items, they also provided a means for us to share our struggles and strategies to overcome them and to come together as a community of physicians. I remember one
