OF THE PRESIDENT
I’m honored and excited to serve as the new president
of the Wayne County Medical Society of Southeast Michigan. As my first act, I would like to recognize our past president, Dr. Steven Daveluy, who has led our society through a very difficult—and, dare I say, historic—time. Dr. Daveluy did a fantastic job keeping our society together through a period that required so much of all
of us. He has left big shoes to fill, and I hope that I can deliver for all of you, and for the patients we serve in our communities.
As our county, state and nation begin to emerge from COVID-19, it’s clear we’ve still got many challenges to face on the road ahead. This wild roller coaster ride is still

speeding forward and taking many good people with it as new variants have emerged. The devastating personal and economic toll COVID-19 has taken on our society, will take many years to fully absorb. We have even lost 3,000 of our health care workers to the disease—and we honor them as valiant heroes in the fight against COVID.
Sadly, I must begin today by acknowledging the very difficult fact that we’re not done with COVID, not by
a long shot. Vaccines are being administered, but not enough of them. There’s still a huge vaccination hesitancy among our patients, and if we don’t get through that, we’re going to struggle to achieve herd immunity as a county, state and nation. We must work with our patients to
