great test for the shades, and one of my favorite flights. It was clear with a low sun over the Pacific. I tested the shades in every configuration – level, steep bank, you name it. I purposely banked so I was looking straight into the sun with reflections on the ocean. The shades made it so much more comfortable.
Along the bay, I had two U.S. Navy UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters a few hundred feet below me and they were easy to spot. After my 180-degree turn south of the Coronado Bay bridge, I came back up the bay with a spectacular view of Lindbergh Field. On my way out of the bay, two V-22 Ospreys were in the area with the sun behind them; I could see them clearly and passed directly beneath the tiltrotors heading home. I now use my Rosen panels to supplement the Jet Shades and the combination works very well.
While the shades will keep the airplane cool when parked, I follow Jet Shades’ recommendation and remove the windshield and cockpit shades when it is above 90 degrees. I leave my rear passenger and skylight shade in place, since they have enough gaps to allow any excess heat to escape. Alternatively, I use my Bruce’s cabin cover and leave the shades in place.
Final Approach
I fly a variety of aircraft, from gliders to jets. I love flying; however, I’m always trying to control the light and heat in
